Every repeated figure on this site comes from one file. data/world.yaml holds the values somebody chose; layouts/_partials/world/values.html computes everything that follows from them. Prose cites a parameter with {{< w coriopolis.rim_speed >}}, which renders 313 m/s.

This page exists so the numbers are readable without running a build, and so a figure that drifts has somewhere visible to drift in front of.

Specified#

Chosen, not derived. Changing one of these changes everything below it.

ParameterValue
coriopolis.length80 km
coriopolis.radius10 km
coriopolis.floor_gravity9.81 m/s²
coriopolis.section_gap2 km
coriopolis.inner_shell_radius8 km
coriopolis.living_area25,000 km²
human.walking_speed1.5 m/s
human.running_speed6 m/s
human.cycling_speed10 m/s

Four of these are not settled facts, and the data file says so in comments. The floor gravity is a working assumption canon has never stated outright. The section gap’s magnitude is agreed but its geometry is not — backlog SP-1. The living area contradicts the cylinder’s own surface area by a factor of five — SP-9. The inner shell radius comes from unratified source notes — NT-1.

Derived#

Computed at build time. Nothing here is written down anywhere.

The weight asymmetry follows Δa/a = ±2u/v + (u/v)², with u positive spinward:

Running, 6 m/s+3.9%−3.8%
Cycling, 10 m/s+6.5%−6.3%

Using it#

{{< w KEY >}} renders the default form. A second positional argument selects a style: long for spelled-out units, bare for the number alone, sci for scientific notation, signed to force a leading + or −. A third argument overrides precision. Hugo forbids mixing positional and named shortcode arguments, which is why there are no style= attributes.

A key that does not exist fails the build rather than rendering an empty string. That is deliberate: a silently empty figure in the middle of a sentence is the failure this whole arrangement exists to prevent.
